Request for a prayer from my friends

Posted on July 29, 2008

Every little helps doesn’t it?

SWMBO and our unborn child (18 weeks gestation) have been in hospital for a few days having a really hard time of things and at the moment it’s really touch and go so I’d like all of my friends with a faith in higher orders to say a prayer for them.

This is the sort of thing that keeps organised religion in new converts but I still can’t believe in anything other than pure maths is in control.

The nursing staff are obviously used to coming up against people without a faith and use generic terms such as god (whatever their own faith may want to call god and gods) and falls back to fate and destiny but I’m of the firm belief that fate and destiny are names people who are too soft to either stand up and have a faith that either there is a divinity or there isn’t use for God.

I don’t believe in fate, destiny or any God but I’m open minded enough at the moment to take my chances and if anybody out there wants to pray for the safety of our unborn child and it’s mother it can’t do any harm can it?

Holiday over

Posted on July 26, 2008

I’ve just left Borth on the day the local music festival was starting featuring in the Alabama 3 and am sat in my bedroom with the window open listing to Wolvestock at my local park drifting on the summer breeze and wondering where it all went wrong.

You see Wolvestock started out as a folk festival in the widest sense and the headliners for the first two where Chumbawamba and Ozric Tentacles both bands I really loved backed by some wonderfully eceletic stuff including my favourite folkies The Oysterband. Then somebody else took over the running and it’s now the largest free country music festival in the country accepting both Country and Western music and according to the program notes bands are invited and requests to perform are not accepted because the organiser has a very strict definition of Country and Western that he won’t deviate from. What this seems to mean is arseholes with spankly blouses and pink ten gallon hats are acceptable be Jonny Cash would be turned away at the gates because you can’t line dance to it.

Where did it all go wrong for Wolvestock. Bastards.

Adsense hates me

Posted on July 15, 2008

Whenever I attempt to sign in to my old adsense account it isn’t recognised as a valid account, whenever I attempt to sign up for a new account it tells me I have one, whenever I fill in the forms to say I can’t log in I get an auto-response telling me to use the account I can’t log in on, whenever I get an email from a real person it tells me to log in to the page that won’t work and use the account that doesn’t work and no I can’t have an new account I already have one.

Serif or Sans?

Posted on July 15, 2008

Errrrm either?

Back when I taught interface design at college I couldn’t find any strong evidence either way but said to my students I preferred Sans-serif on screen and Serif in print and cited lots of work supporting that view. Now somebody has done the hard work of bringing all the research together and it’s exactly as I thought, some people in some cases suffer less stress reading their preferred style. At least that’s cleared up :)

So important…

I had to say it twice.

The Oyster card may have been hacked but it’s secure because the makers won’t let you say it’s not.

Carry on everybody, business as usual.
