Request for a prayer from my friends

Posted on July 29, 2008

Every little helps doesn’t it?

SWMBO and our unborn child (18 weeks gestation) have been in hospital for a few days having a really hard time of things and at the moment it’s really touch and go so I’d like all of my friends with a faith in higher orders to say a prayer for them.

This is the sort of thing that keeps organised religion in new converts but I still can’t believe in anything other than pure maths is in control.

The nursing staff are obviously used to coming up against people without a faith and use generic terms such as god (whatever their own faith may want to call god and gods) and falls back to fate and destiny but I’m of the firm belief that fate and destiny are names people who are too soft to either stand up and have a faith that either there is a divinity or there isn’t use for God.

I don’t believe in fate, destiny or any God but I’m open minded enough at the moment to take my chances and if anybody out there wants to pray for the safety of our unborn child and it’s mother it can’t do any harm can it?

Steve, I _know_ what you’re going through. I don’t believe either in $DEITY, but my thoughts are with you and your family.

And yet, through your cynicism there is an undercurrent of hope that maybe prayer can help. You may not believe in God, but I know you love irony.

I will pray for your unborn son, and what a blessing this will be in your life.

Since you don’t believe in religion let me suggest to you a science that can perhaps help at this time. The Science of Getting Rich. This relatively cheep little book, over 100 years old now, is packed with life changing information. (And, yes, that link goes to my store.) Now don’t be surprised if this book asks you to believe in something you can’t see. However it doesn’t ask you to believe in God, not in any Christian sense. Just that there is a greater power out there, greater than you or I, that you must believe in and when you do great things to happen. I call it “The God of Israel.” Mr Wattles (in the book) calls it “a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.”

Actually, I’ve just found the entire text of the book online, so now you have no excuse. It’s relevant to your situation because your child will enrich your life so much. With 3 of my own (and more coming some day) I know.

I share your doubts on matters of faith, yet was nevertheless struck by how your request was phrased! I hope these comments don’t get hijacked by discussions of atheism etc., since your family’s health is the only issue and I, too, won’t hesitate to ask almost certainly imaginary forces to intercede on the off-chance that it might help a cool random stranger on the net!

Yeesh … that really sounds crazy. Sorry!

Anyway, thanks for creating google goggles … and you better believe a global gang of random redditors is now hoping for the best for you and your family.
